What type of boat is best for YOU?
Whether you're planning to ride the whitewater rapids or cruise down the Ohio River, let Dave help you select the boat that best fits your paddling needs. Just like a sportscar can't go 4-wheeling, one boat can't do everything...you might have to forego some things to gain other benefits.
- Recreational - This is the ultimate compromise. Recreational canoes are made for paddlers who seldom go long distances, carry much gear or face large waves. You can paddle easy rivers, cross sheltered lakes, and use them for fun, camping, fishing, puttering about and playing near shore.
- Touring - They have a greater carrying capacity than recreational canoes, usually are a bit fuller at the stern and bow for additional buoyancy and glide farther and straighter.
- Whitewater Playboat - These boats are shorter and are designed to turn very quickly and respond instantaneously to the slightest paddle command or change in current. They do not like to go in a straight line and have very little carrying capacity.
- Cruising - These are machines that sacrifice everything else for speed. They don't like to turn, there is less stability and carrying capacity is minimal.
